Chess++
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Chess++ is a roguelike variation on the classic game of chess. Boards are randomly generated, with missing tiles and pieces strewn about. Your task is simple: checkmate the enemy king of each level. The complication: pieces you lose will not be returned to you for the next game.
In addition to this change, pawns and kings behave somewhat differently than in traditional chess. Pawns can travel one square in any cardinal direction, and can capture pieces one square along any diagonal. They cannot be promoted by reaching the edge of the board; instead, they are promoted into any piece they capture. This is a one-time effect, though - once they've transformed, that's the piece they'll stay.
The king has also received a buff: if it captures a piece, it instead "converts" that enemy piece to its side, and the two pieces swap places. This can really shake up the endgame process, so watch out when going for mate!
There is no castling mechanic, or en passant.
